3 Days De-Addiction Awareness-cum-Training Programme

As we all know, addiction is an immense issue which has spiraled out of control in today’s times. Over 3 crore Indians use cannabis and over 2 crore are habituated to opioids like heroin, according to the Magnitude of Substance Abuse in India 2019 report released earlier this year by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. The problem in our society with addiction is it is treated like a choice than as a major problem faced by an individual.
According to the Magnitude of Substance Abuse study conducted by the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, over 4.6 lakh children and 18 lakh adults in India need help to come off their addiction to inhalants and sedatives.

In view of the above, Medical Wing, RERF has recently successfully organized 3 days De-addiction Awareness-cum-Training Programme from 28th – 30th January, 2020, in the premises of Shantivan, Abu Road, Rajasthan, for its Members, BK Teachers and other interested Brothers/sisters to empower them to help the society in preventing / eradicating such psycho-social-medical problem or rehabilitation of victims of the drug/ tobacco addiction.

The training programme was inaugurated by Dr. Banarasi Sah Bhaiji, Executive Secretary, Medical Wing and Dr. Pratap Midda, Global Hospital. This was followed by training /awareness classes by Dr. Sachin Parab, Project Director (Global Initiative of Tobacco Awareness). The training/awareness sessions were focused on overview of all sorts of substance addictions, myths on addictions, quitting addiction, role of raja yoga lifestyle in de-addiction, counseling techniques and therapeutics. Success stories of de-addiction were also shared in the sessions.

Around 50 Brothers/sisters from Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Bihar and Rajasthan participated in the Awareness-cum-Training Programme with enthusiasm and passion to learn about the substance abuse and addiction as well as de-addiction counseling techniques.
The programme ended with Vote of thanks from Dr. Banarasi Lal Sah who inspired all the participants to become social instruments in helping the society get rid from the curse of the addictions.
