The longest distance health awareness campaign ever conducted by any NGO in India was concluded in an impressive function at Bhaidas Hall Vile Parle West Mumbai at 1000 hrs today. The National Health awareness campaign, headed by Dr. Banarsi Lal Sah and Dr. Ashok Mehta of medical Wing of the Brahma Kumaris Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation covered a distance of over 20,000 kilometers from Trivandrum, Dehradoon, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati and Lucknow starting 15 August 2009 and  concluding with this function covering more than  one million persons during this campaign.

 

  • Titled  as  “MY INDIA HEALTHY INDIA” this  long term health project launched by the Medical wing of the Brahma Kumaris which covered 19 states in the country through five car rallies covering 20,000 kms between August 15 and October 2nd 2009 creating awareness about healthy lifestyles to over one million people.   

  • The rallies started from Thiruvaananthapuram, Dehradoon, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati and Lucknow and reached Mumbai on 30th Sept 09. On the way they addressed over 2500 meetings in over 200 cities towns and villages promoting positive health, eradicate negative habits & major stress related diseases of modern era by simple life style modifications, diet, exercise and Rajyoga meditation.  

  • This  function  organised at Bhaidas Hall Vile Parle (West) starting 10 AM on 2nd Oct 2009, to greet the Car yatris comprising of eminent Doctors and medical professionals whose dedicated efforts throughout their yatra inspired large gatherings about health awareness and de-addictions.  

  • Participating Doctors and Health specialists spoke on their experience during the campaign. Eminent speakers included Dr Ashok Mehta Medical Superintendent of BSES MG Hospital managed by Brahma Kumaris at Andheri who is also an eminent Cancer Surgeon. Film Personality Ms. Poonam Dhillon who was Guest of Honour on the occasion also spoke along with Dr. Vinayak Shrikhande, a senior surgeon and Head of Bombay Hospital. They stressed during coming decades, diseases related to lifestyles and stress will reach epidemic proportions. There will be relative and absolute increase in many diseases such as Diabetes, High BP, Coronary artery diseases, Cancer, HIV, Aids, anxiety and depression. There is an urgent need for medical scientists, government and NGOs to focus their attention on controlling these factors.
