Report on the inaugural function of My India Healthy India 2009 rally held at Trivandrum on 16.08.2009  | The nation wide health campaign My India Healthy India 2009 organised by the Medical Wing of Rajayoga Education and Research Foundation of Brahmakumaris was inaugurated by The Maharaja of Travancore His Highness Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma on 16th of August 2009 at Karthika Thirunal Theatre, East Fort, Trivandrum. In his inaugural speech, the Maharaja said that the old tradition of Keralites visiting the temple in the early morning and going around the diety (parikrama) and paying obeisance (bending with reverence before the diety) brings health to both body and mind. He further wished that the inauguration of this health project marks the rise of healthy sun, which spreads its rays of health in the entire nation. | Dr. Ashok Mehta, president medical wing RERF delivered the keynote address. He said that the people may doubt whether a small group of people can bring about change in the health scenario of the nation. But the idea of the project was originated from the hearts of the members of health wing and therefore that power, no doubt has the ability to bring about the desired change. He also pointed out that huge resources are required diseases, while the control of diseases by changing the life style can be brought about by almost zero resources through mediation, diet and exercise. He described how the extensive use of tobacco is the majour cause of cancer and so thrust should be given on educating people to prevent the use of tobacco. This really is expectd to inspire voluntary organizations. and NGOs to co-operate for the success of the project  | Dr. Shaijala, Director of Health Services, Kerala State who presided over the function, pointed out that communicable disease in the state has increased to alarming proportions. She mentioned about the scare created by the recent incidents of H1 N1 flu in several parts of the country. Dr. Shailaja congratulated the organizers of My India Healthy India project and wished all success to achieve the goal. Dr. Ramdas Pisharody, Principal Govt. Medical College, Trivandrum, in his felicitation address said that doctors usually think about diseases and they seldom think about health. He added that Kerala is facing the serious problem of non-communicable diseases of life style origin. He congratulated the Brahmakumaris in leading the way to healthy India. | Sri. Surya Krishanamoorthy, Director Surya Stage and Film Society said that culture means the concern for others. Culture is fulfilled only when we are able to wipe the tears of others. He stated that India is the only country which proclaims the slogan “Loka samastha sukhino bhavanthu.” This great country can surely fulfil the aim of My India Healthy India launched by Brahmakumaris  | Dr. Banarsilal Sah, the project director of My India Healthy India wished the people of Tivandrum to achieve the ambitious goal of My Trivandrum Healthy Trivandrum. Dr. Niranjana Shah, sub-zone in-charge, Brahmakumaris Baroda, said that the life span in the country has increased. But the quality of life has not improved in that proportion. She added that behavioural changes in daily life style and postitive thoughts will alone bring about desirable changes in the functioning of human body. BK sister Anila, centre –in- charge Kollam gave a good experience of Rajayoga mediation | Sister Neelima read out the message from His Excellency Sri. R.S Gawai, the Governor of Kerala and that from the Honourable Minister of Health, Smt. PK Srimathy Teacher. A welcome dance was performed by young artists of Karumom BK Centre, Trivandrum.  | The cetre-in-charge BK Mini welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering. Dr. BK Prasad proposed the vote of thanks. The car rally was flagged off by both Dr. Ramadas Pisharody and Sri.Surya Krishnamoorhty. The next day ie, 16th August 2009, health awareness programmes were conducted at different schools, colleges (including Medical, Engineering and Nursing) villages and slum areas. These lectures indeed attracted many to learn Rajayoga mediation. |
