Rajyoga like holistic healing is a self initiated technique in which healing takes place as a result of activation of health promoting physiological and biochemical process. During Rajyoga practice the person also re-establishes the harmony with others human beings, his environment and the universal life energy. Yoga is a Sanskrit word derived from another Sanskrit word “Ujha” which literally means link, connection or communication. In terminology yoga means communion of the self with the supreme. Once the communion is established the practitioner receives positive vibrations of tranquility, bliss, purity mercy happiness, power from the Supreme soul. During yoga practice one just tunes one’s mind to the supreme. The mechanism of yoga can be explained with the help of an example –just As different radio stations are broadcasting their programmes on specific wave length, it will pick up that particular programme, similarly during yoga practice one tunes one’s mind to the wave length of the supreme soul and in turn receives all those positive vibrations. The practice of Rajyoga meditation consists of the following important steps: - Physical preparations
- Self observation
- Giving turn for self realization
- Turning the mind to Almighty
- Re-establishing all relations with the Supreme
- Narrating all the feelings to Almighty
- Coming back with positive determination
- Physical preparations:
Select a place which is free from noise and other distractions. If the room is illuminated with red light, it will have a positive effect. The aim of Rajyoga meditation is to become a Karmayogi, which means to remain in the meditation mood even while doing day- to- day actions. Sit in a chair comfortably or sit cross-legged, keep your hands on lap, stretch your back to maximum straight position and then slightly let go till the back takes up natural curves. The uniqueness of Rajyoga meditation is that the practitioner keeps his eyes open. Meditation can be practiced at any time preferably early morning and at sunset. - Self observation:
In the beginning of meditation for few seconds observe your own thoughts. Just watch your mind like a second person. When you do this self observation invariably, you will find that the speed of thinking reduces. During the 15-20 minutes of meditation practice you want to give a turn to your thoughts on road where the final objectives and goals are that of spiritual experiences. Hence this technique can be used to reduce the speed of thought process. - Giving turn for self- realization:
Naturally and gently generate the thoughts of self-realisation. The basic concept is to be aware about the spark of metaphysical light in the centre of the forehead which is completely different from the physical body. This light has three aspects- The mind, intellect and personality trait. Mind has the property to generate thoughts whether good or bad, positive or negative, all originate from the mind. The brain and bodily organs act as instrument if expression. Every action that you do leaves an impression on the soul. You realise that your habits, conditions and personality traits are influencing your thoughts and actions. We change these personality traits if we consciously transform our thinking pattern and actions.
The original nature of the soul is that of peace, love, bliss, purity and power. You are a loveful soul. You are a happy and blissful soul. The soul is full of powers. - Turning the mind to almighty:
At this stage of Rajyoga, practice gently and naturally, generating thoughts related to the various concepts of God-realisation. The basic concept of God-realisation is that he is an infinitesimal point of light and might. The attributes of God, his qualities and powers are the highest of the high, in the universe. His form is perceived as a point of light. In geometry, a point has no dimension. Hence the Supreme is considered to be incorporeal and a being of light. - Re-establishing all the relations with the Supreme:
Having experienced a deep sense of detachment and positive qualities of the Supreme, we further establish all relations with him achieving unconditional love of all relation from him. - Narrating all feelings to Almighty:
In this stage we express all our feelings and emotions to the Supreme and receive his guidance and suggestions thus all hidden and subconscious emotion surface. This has a therapeutic effect similar to the methods of psychotherapy. - Coming back with positive determination:
This is the last stage, in which we generate some positive thoughts which would help in preparing future actions with purity and peace of mind. A practitioner becomes once again aware of the physical surroundings. Following are the systematic steps hence spend sufficient time in each step. 1. Psychological mechanism: Even when you practice Rajyoga meditation systematically, initially your mind will be pulled by the mundane thoughts of day to day activities but do not be distracted by them, continue the practice of meditation with sincerity and interest. While in meditation you will get absorbed in the pure thoughts and achieve some concentration. Every positive step clearing Rajyoga practice brings transformation in one’s life. The distinct feature of Rajyoga meditation is that every time you are able to generate different positive thoughts as per your objectives and experience the desired transformation. 2. Using Rajyoga as a therapy Rajyoga meditation helps in curing miner psychological problems like neurotic illness and many other diseases like hypertension, Insomnia, depression etc. Rajyoga removes tension, nervousness, fear and other negativities, which disturb a person, hence relaxing the mind completely. This way the negative symptoms that the average middle class neurotics experience are cured with the help Rajyoga. Some of the neurotic diseases, which can be easily cured through Rajyoga, are anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorders, phobias etc by combing Rajyoga with conventional psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. Further more positive thoughts can be used during Rajyoga to overcome stress, fear for holistic health. The dose of medicine can be reduced and the disease can be eradicated to the core, since meditation removes the root cause of psychosomatic diseases. Acidity, peptic ulcer, headaches, high blood pressure etc can be diagnosed through Rajyoga therapy. For instance “A tumor patient was taught to practice Rajyoga and in the state of relaxation he was advised to visualize rays of light falling on the tumor and gradually the tumor was disappeared”. Another example pertaining to Rajyoga therapy we take that a diabetes patient during meditation was advised to visualize powerful rays of light falling on the pancreas and generating thoughts that pancreas was producing sufficient insulin to reduce blood sugar. Hence the pancreas was filled with Godly pure vibrations of light and ultimately was healed. We take another example regarding the acidity and peptic ulcer patient. Here in the patient was made to visualize, in a deep state of Rajyoga, that soothing and relaxing rays were falling from the supreme on the soul and like a laser beam having a soothing effect on your stomach. Also the patient was told to visualize, the stimulation of nerves in the stomach was reducing hence he experienced, powerful Godly rays fallen on the ulcer and the ulcer was gradually healing and ultimately healed.
